Travel & Stay
We know traveling internationally can feel daunting, but getting to Florence — and getting around once you are there — is very simple. We hope the information below helps make your journey smooth, relaxed, and enjoyable.
Getting to Florence
We recommend flying into Rome (FCO) and continuing on to Florence by train. While Florence does have a small airport, flights are limited and often involve additional connections. Flying into Rome typically offers more flexibility and ease.
From Rome, you will take two trains to reach Florence. You can book from FCO to Santa Maria Novella, with a connection in Termini. While this may sound complicated, the app/website linked below makes this process easy. Please click the Omio icon below. From the time you board the first train, the total journey to Florence takes approximately two hours. Italy’s train system is incredibly efficient, easy to navigate, and comfortable. Stations are well-marked, trains are punctual, and staff are readily available to assist. The journey itself is scenic and relaxing — a great way to ease into the Italian experience.

Getting Around Florence
One of the best things about Florence is how walkable it is. No matter where you choose to stay, you will find that most of the city’s highlights are within easy walking distance. Somehow, a mile walk in Florence never quite feels like a mile. The streets are beautiful, lively, and full of surprises around every corner.
For guests who prefer not to walk longer distances, we have included a map showing a 1 mile walking distance around the Duomo, which encompasses many central hotels, restaurants, and landmarks. Staying within this area offers maximum convenience while still allowing you to fully experience the city.
Taxis, Uber, and Transportation Notes
Transportation in Florence works a bit differently than in many cities.
Taxis cannot be hailed from the street and must be called on the phone, booked through an app, or picked up from designated taxi stands. Uber is available, but service can be inconsistent. We recommend not planning anything time sensitive around either option.
If guests decide to venture further, private drivers are the most reliable option and can be arranged in advance. That said, taxis and Uber do still work with some flexibility and patience. Nearly everything in Florence is walkable, which makes transportation simple.
